Eco & Art Adventures

Overview

Eco Adventures of Mountain Roots are offered to community groups and families interested in visiting the Hickory Nut Gorge with a sense of adventure and interest in the environment. Guests may choose to take part in pre-scheduled programs, or create their own package deal from the list of activities offered below.

Pottery Camp
Mountain Roots is excited to be offering 2 pottery camps this summer. July 9-13 & July 16-20, 2012. Half day sessions. Ages 6-15. Pottery Camp will be held in Brevard, NC at the Transylvania County Arts Council. Contact Ali Lien Ali@MountainRoots.Org for more information or to register.

Workshops
Mountain Roots and The Laughing Waters Retreat Center will be offering a variety of workshops to feed mind, body, and soul. Some possible topics that may be addressed in these workshops include the f ollowing:

• Healthy, organic, and local cooking
• Naturalist & herbalist study
• Community building
• Leadership development
• Permaculture
• Various arts (i.e. pottery, photography)
• Storytelling

A calendar of these workshops is currently being created. Please contact Ali Lien if you are interested in presenting or attending a workshop on one of these topics or if you would like to propose a workshop topic. Our farm: Currently there is a 10 acre organic apple orchard with 115 trees and seven varieties plus a small organic vineyard. This year we hope to work on up to three organic vegetable gardens and continue developing and implementing a permaculture design plan which will incorporate a diverse array of perennial food-producing plants such as strawberries, asparagus, figs, muscadine grapes, Asian pears, persimmons, goumis and a variety of others.

Service projects: Work activities will be varied. There will be lots of gardening. Everything from starting a nursery of native plants, planting veggies, pruning apple trees, harvesting delicious organic apples/produce, vending apples/ produce, weeding, and designing and preparing a garden site.
