Our PURPOSE & Our PROGRAMS


Our Purpose:
Mountain Roots  is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization providing discovery and adventure learning experiences for school and community groups in the Southeast to learn more about their environment, themselves, and their communities. Focus areas include: Sustainability, The Arts, Outdoor Adventure, Leadership & Community Development.

College Programs & Wilderness Orientaiton--Mountain Roots offers a variety of programs for local college students including the Wilderness Orientation with Brevard College. Visit our Wilderness

Pottery Camp--We look forward to hosting pottery camp again this summer. 2013 Camp dates: July 
8-12 & 22-26. Hosted at the Transylvania Community Arts Center in Brevard, NC. See the Eco & Art

Women's Roots Retreats--
Join us each fall and spring for a day of art and nature with an incredible community.  The next retreat will be the first weekend of fall 2013.

Rotary Youth Leadership Programs--Mountain Roots and Executive Director, Ali Lien, partner with the Brevard and Pisgah Forest Rotary Clubs to offer both the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards camp for Rotary District 7670, as well as the RYLA Education and Development Training Institute (READ) Conference & Youth Retreat each October. The READ Conference brings together teen leaders and facilitators from Rotary Clubs all over the world. Brevard Banff Bash--Mountain Roots hosted our first annual Brevard Banff Bash on Saturday March 16th, prior to the Banff Mountain Film Festival at Brevard College. The BBB included an outdoor gear sale, crazy race (cash prize), camp stove cook off, and live music. Laughing Waters Retreat Center
For more information about the Laughing Waters Retreat Center, visit

Sessions run Monday through Friday
AM-- 9am-Noon (Ages 6-10)
PM--1:30-4:30 (Ages 11-15)
Cost: $225 per camper
