Eric Shope- Program Intern
Eric is currently pursuing a degree in Outdoor Leadership. He is originally from Valley Forge, PA but has been living in western North Carolina for the past 4 years. He hopes to connect our youth deeper to themselves, others, and the natural environment.

Suzanne Bell - Counselor

​Suzanne has lived in the North Carolina mountains for about twenty years, raising two daughters on the trails and waters of Pisgah National Forest. Teaching toddlers at Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church preschool for eight years, Suzanne shares with preschoolers a wonder for the natural world, and loves to experience its lessons with young children.

Madeleine Lefler - Counselor
Madeleine is a classical voice major at Belmont University in Nashville, TN and hopes to pursue a Masters in speech pathology after she graduates. She grew up in Brevard, and enjoys hiking and climbing in the national forest. She has four energetic dogs and a guinea pig at home, and loves crafty projects. 

Kiersten WilberProgram Coordinator

Kiersten formed a connection with the natural world from a young age growing up in the mountains of Alaska. She has taught for experiential and environmental education programs in her home state, the Rockies, the desert Southwest, and the Peruvian Andes. She is excited to now be sharing her love of the natural world with kids in the Appalachians of western North Carolina.

Emily Martin is originally from Dallas, NC and currently attends UNC Chapel Hill. She's entering her second year there and pursuing a major in Human Development and Family Studies. She enjoys working with children of all ages.

Ali Holroyd LienExecutive Director and Co-Founder 

It's a dream come true. Venturing into our eighth year of Mountain Roots programming and camps, Ali is excited to help provide opportunities for hundreds / thousands of kids to get outside and involved in both the community and the natural world all year long. She's been an experiential educator for over 20 years with wilderness programs, camps, schools, colleges, challenge courses, retreats, and now Mountain Roots!
